Yes, We Do Wish You a Merry Christmas!
With just a week to go before Christmas, we want to take this opportunity to wish everyone – clients, partners, friends, and anyone else reading this – a most Merry Christmas!
We hope that each of you has been able to get into the true spirit of Christmas, in which giving is better than receiving, and the companionship of those we love is the greatest gift of the season.
This is what Jesus, whose birthday is truly the only real reason for all this celebrating, asks of us. To help others, to bring joy to them, and to help them understand what it is all about.
Does it seem to you like the “buy something for yourself” message has been stronger this year than ever in Christmas advertising? That strikes us as just plain wrong. It should always be about giving, not what you will get.
Maybe it’s an indication that we are in an increasingly self-centered, greedy age, but we hope not. We’re hoping it’s just a marketing ploy to get people to buy more. Got to keep the economy buzzing, you know.
Jesus took the giving message one step further in the 14th chapter of Luke, when he said that when we give a feast, we should not necessarily invite our friends or relatives since they are in a position to invite us back and in a sense we would be repaid for our kindness. He said instead to invite the poor, the lame, the blind, and others who can’t invite us back, because then we are truly giving.
We hope as this year closes out that you can reflect on it and declare it a good year. There was peace, generally, across the world. The economy is stronger than it has been in a long time. And while we are increasingly politically divided, we hope that we all can put that aside for a time and enjoy what should be a peaceful, tranquil time of reflection.
We of course wish our Jewish friends a Happy Hanukkah, as that holiday begins a couple of days before Christmas, and we wish everyone a Happy New Year. We’ll be back to talk business again in 2020.
